Diary recording events during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition on which he served. Includes a ten-page, incomplete typescript continuation of the diary which takes the story through Orde-Lees's rescue. This diary was used by the expedition leader, Sir Ernest Shackleton, in his book South and certain passages are marked by Orde-Lees for easy reference.

Endurance was the three-masted barquentine in which Sir Ernest Shackleton and a crew of 27 men and one cat sailed for the Antarctic on the 1914–1917 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. It was launched in 1912 from Sandefjord in Norway; three years later, it was crushed by pack ice and sank in the Weddell Sea off Antarctica. All of its crew survived.
